Digital Meets Craft

Artist Michael Eden tapped into 3-D software to enhance his eye for the dimensional before creating, by hand, the ceramic Navy Vase.

Tools of the trade: British sculptor Gareth Neal entrusted his own digital design to guide his hand at a computer-controlled saw. The result is the future-forward Oak Vase, which Neal also crafts in Walnut and Ash.

Designer Hussein Chalayan chose video game characters to update an otherwise traditional design for his Approaching Rug, manufactured by Ruckstuhl and available in limited edition.

Scan, etch, sculpt: Jerusalem-based designer Sharon Sides reveals her digital prowess with The Stumps collection. For the series' Lean Stool, an image of a tree's unique ring patterns was first scanned onto brass, then acid-etched to further enhance this seating's natural appeal.
